Could the writer not be bothered to come up with an actual name for his character? And then there is Mainly Murder (1937) by William Roughead. Harvey’s The Mysterious Mr Badman (1934). An out of the ordinary title is often more likely to be amusing but sometimes far more prosaic titles can raise smile, simply because of their sheer banalness, such as W. The majority of the titles below are amusingly quirky, but some I have selected for different reasons. So when this Top Ten Tuesday topic came up I decided it might be nice to provide a short update. Back in 2017 I wrote post entitled: You Called Your Book What…? in which I shared some of the weirder titles from classic crime fiction.
